Introduction to Iyengar Yoga

Our Introduction to Iyengar Yoga Course is great value for money and a brilliant starting point if you are new to the Iyengar method.  Students will be introduced to the concept of Iyengar yoga, alignment, precision in posture, extension, stability and internal observation.  Standing poses are introduced as well as seated and the preparations for future inversions.  This class is also ideal for those with previous yoga experience who are new to the Iyengar method, or who are in search of a “refresher” course.

Introductory courses

General class level

These classes are suitable for all new students or those with less than two years’ experience of Iyengar yoga.  Basic yoga postures (asanas) are taught to develop strength, stamina and flexibility, and are suitable for any age group.  You don’t have to complete an Introduction to Iyengar Yoga Course first, though we do recommend it.  Teachers can recommend if other levels would be more suitable.

Intermediate

For students who’ve been coming to Iyengar yoga classes regularly for at least two years. Work is more intensive than the General classes and you’ll be introduced to a wider variety of asanas, and basic pranayama.

Intermediate / Advanced

For students with at least four years’ training in Iyengar yoga, who can maintain a stable Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) for at least five minutes and who have established an independent practice. Work will be more demanding and asanas are studied in more detail.  Please ask at the studio for further information.

Slower Paced Yoga

This class is suitable for those who are keen to practice yoga but want a slower paced class that suits their needs.

Older students find Iyengar yoga helps them maintain flexibility and stamina.

This class also offers those with minor physical ailments, pain and age related challenges, the opportunity to continue with their yoga practice.

Free Yoga Taster Classes

Our free taster classes are aimed at new students and are a great way to try out Iyengar Yoga.  These hour long sessions provide an experience of the Iyengar method and are suitable for people of all ages.

Weekend Workshops

These half and full day workshops will take place at regular intervals throughout the year.  They are suitable for students with at least 6 months’ yoga experience who would like to work on more advanced asanas and finer instructions within a longer session.   Please ask for further details.
